"Credibility is our highest asset"

Gabriele Fink has been the re-elected chairperson of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) Committee for Communication, Media, and Creative Industries since March 2023. In our interview, she shares why shitstorms are inevitable and how to maintain credibility even on a regional level.

The committee consists of entrepreneurs from the media, communication, and creative industries, as well as communication executives from various sectors. Through this broad composition, both media-economic and corporate-practical perspectives flow into the consultations. The committee advises the DIHK board and supports the IHk organisation in assessing media and communication policy developments.

The substantive work includes:

• economic conditions for private media providers,
• media concentration processes and press merger control,
• issues regarding the State Broadcasting Treaty,
• broadband and network expansion,
• net neutrality,
• developments in copyright law and the digital competitive environment.

The virtual inaugural meeting of the DIHK Committee took place on 16 March 2023. The previous committee chairwoman, Gabriele Fink, Head of Communication Europe at BMW Group, was re-elected. Christian Berthold, Managing Director of ANTENNE THÜRINGEN GmbH & Co. KG, was elected as deputy chairman.

Stephan Fink, Managing Director of Finktank Lindenthal GmbH, was also appointed as deputy chairman. He unexpectedly passed away in August 2024 at the age of 66.
