The key priorities of the DIHK ICT Committee include comprehensive expansion of digital infrastructures, addressing data and information security, modernising administration through e-government, as well as developments in data economy and other digital policy fields of high relevance for businesses.
The ICT Committee brings together representatives from companies involved in information and communication technology and user companies from across Germany. The committee is complemented by experts from the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), who contribute technical, economic, and regulatory perspectives. This diversity ensures a practical discussion of digital frameworks and technological developments.
The spring meeting 2025 was used by the ICT Committee for an intensive exchange with representatives of EU institutions on current digitisation topics.
Lisa Herzog (BMDV) and Eike Bruns (BMWK) presented the focus areas of the Permanent Representation of Germany to the EU. Ongoing digital policy initiatives were at the forefront, enabling committee members to provide targeted professional feedback.
During further discussion rounds, participants exchanged views with MEPs Svenja Hahn and Sergey Lagodinsky on key EU regulations, including:
- Digital Markets Act (DMA)
- Data Act
- AI Act
The focus was on the impact of these legislative acts on businesses and digital transformation in Germany.
Benjamin Bögel, cabinet member of Executive Vice-President Virkkunen, explained current cybersecurity initiatives of the EU. Committee members then discussed concrete implementation experiences from the business sector and provided insights into existing challenges in daily corporate activities.
Finally, representatives of the DIHK informed about:
- ongoing coalition negotiations,
- current developments in foreign trade and customs,
- as well as EU industrial regulations and the Chips Act.
The next meeting of the DIHK ICT Committee will take place on 11 and 12 November 2025 in Berlin. On 11 November, the 3rd Data Forum of the German Economy will focus on data and artificial intelligence.
