Klimaschutz flexibler und internationaler ausrichten

The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry calls on policymakers in Berlin and Brussels to enable the economy to explore new ways of meeting global climate targets.

The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry urges policymakers to enable the economy to adopt flexible and international approaches in climate protection.

"The IHK organisation continues to support the goal of climate neutrality," according to the resolution adopted by the DIHK general assembly. To avoid overwhelming businesses in their transformation process and better leverage economic opportunities, a shift in course is needed. Specifically, the DIHK advocates for better international coordination of climate targets and converting year-specific guidelines into a more flexible CO2 budget. The DIHK study "New Paths for the Energy Transition" demonstrates that this would significantly reduce the costs of the energy transition.

"Germany's current approach to energy transition is marked by governmental micromanagement, conflicting objectives, and a lack of international alignment," explains DIHK President Peter Adrian. "The resulting costs and competitive disadvantages lead to the closure of energy-intensive industries, a reduction in economic substance, and, consequently, a loss of jobs and prosperity. A strong economy, however, is crucial for meeting the high investment requirements of the energy transition and ensuring its success. Many companies voluntarily pursue ambitious climate protection goals with great commitment. We are very proud of this."

The resolution adopted in the DIHK general assembly will also serve as the basis for further discussions within the IHKs in the coming months.
