The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) demands concrete steps towards growth before the summer break
14.05.2025 - "The new federal government has recognised: economic upswing does not happen on its own. Chancellor Merz sent important signals in his policy statement – many of the announced measures are not only right from an economic perspective but overdue. Bureaucracy reduction, faster approvals, lower energy costs, special depreciation, investments in infrastructure – all have been demanded by our companies for a long time. We must also openly discuss new models of longer annual and lifelong working hours."
What is crucial now is: implementation must follow quickly. Many companies are under pressure, cutting jobs, postponing investments. Clear relief signals are needed before the summer break – for example, by immediately reducing the electricity tax to the EU minimum level. A comprehensive Economic Boost Act and the introduction of the one-in-two-out rule would also send strong impulses for tangible reduction of bureaucratic hurdles. The planned corporate tax reform is far too late – it should be brought forward or at least legally established now.
What the economy needs now is trust, reliability – and more entrepreneurial freedom. Only then can Germany return to growth."
