From the Green Deal to the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act or the EU Packaging Regulation, companies have been inundated with a flood of new regulations from Brussels and Berlin in recent years, imposing additional reporting, documentation, approval, and statistical obligations. This has become a significant brake on growth in Germany.
Helena Melnikov, Chief Executive Officer of the DIHK, emphasized during the 3rd DIHK Bureaucracy Reduction Conference, held on 10th October 2025 in Berlin, the pressing need to dismantle unnecessary regulations. She highlighted examples like accelerated LNG terminal approvals and practical solutions for investments in national defense. The German Federal Government has signaled a determined approach to reducing bureaucracy, with commitments like impactful practice checks and reforms in Brussels towards minimising reporting obligations.
