Global Gateway is the EU Commission's new geopolitical infrastructure and connectivity initiative. With this, the EU aims to respond to existing connectivity efforts of other global economic powers and to strategically and consistently direct its investments in energy, transport, digital, health, and educational cooperation.
The German economy supports Global Gateway as it aims to strengthen European external trade. The planned infrastructure expansion within this framework can lead to lasting improvements in trade flows, benefiting German and European companies. Additionally, more resilient relationships with third countries are promoted, access to new markets is facilitated, and global supply chain diversification is advanced.
Special Consideration for SMEs
The German economy clearly demands well-defined and accessible participation opportunities for companies. According to the Think-Small-First principle, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should be particularly considered. In this regard, the establishment of the Global Gateway Business Advisory Group, including stakeholders from the private sector, particularly from medium-sized businesses, should be supported.
