The verdict of the EU Commission's first year from the perspective of the economy is clear: It is not enough.

01.12.2025 - "Not enough relief, not enough momentum, not enough new approaches to fulfil the promises of increasing competitiveness. Businesses are still not seeing improvements in their everyday operations; rather, they are having to deal with ever more regulations.

The omnibus packages are indeed a step in the right direction to reduce disproportionate burdens. However, damage control alone does not suffice for a real turnaround. We need the promised systematic review of all EU legislation and a fundamentally new way of regulating—innovation- and competition-friendly, and above all trust-based. Only in this way can we create the space for growth that our businesses urgently need.

It is not just about the 'what' but also the 'how': Many Commission proposals on competitiveness rely on the principle of 'more state, less market'. Yet the world's most successful economic regions show that competitiveness arises from entrepreneurial dynamics enabled by quick approvals, flexible labor markets, and innovation-friendly framework conditions.

Europe faces enormous pressure in the global competition. Now is the time for genuine reforms. European businesses need reliable framework conditions and more entrepreneurial freedom to sustain Europe as a location."
