Economy calls for significant transformation in Brussels

700 entrepreneurs from across Europe assumed the role of Members of the European Parliament at the European Parliament of Enterprises (EPdU) in Brussels on November 4th – with a clear mission: to restore competitiveness to the European economy.

5.11.2025 - 700 entrepreneurs from across Europe assumed the role of Members of the European Parliament at the European Parliament of Enterprises (EPdU) in Brussels on November 4th – with a clear mission: to restore competitiveness to the European economy.

In a simulated plenary session, the 90-member German delegation – comprising family businesses to corporations and representing nearly all industries – deliberated the most urgent challenges facing the European business environment with members from the Commission and Parliament.

The outcome: Despite challenging geopolitical circumstances, the entrepreneurs displayed readiness to craft solutions and presented tangible ideas. The primary demand to policymakers: greater support, significantly reduced bureaucracy, and a more effective economic policy agenda for Europe.

Specifically, this entails:

  1. More free trade agreements to facilitate diversification! 77% of companies reported additional supply chain bottlenecks due to geopolitical tensions. 70% expressed that the EU is still falling short in aiding businesses to address this challenge through agreements.

  2. Finally removing barriers in the single market! Despite the EU single market being established over 30 years ago, 82% of companies revealed that their business operations remain constrained within the EU due to insufficient integration. Additionally, 84% called for decisive measures against violations of single market regulations to minimise barriers.

  3. A genuine reduction in bureaucracy! The EU simplification agenda has yet to benefit businesses: 93% of companies reported no decrease in administrative burdens in the past year. Sustainability reporting in its current format was deemed disproportionate: 75% stated it is ineffective in simultaneously bolstering competitiveness and fostering sustainability.

All voting results can be found here (only available in German).

The European Chambers umbrella organisations will steadfastly advocate for improved framework conditions in Europe. Robust companies lay the foundation for prosperity, employment, and innovation – in Germany and across Europe.
