In this competition round, awards were given to German Schools in Cairo/Egypt, Brussels and London, Cuenca/Ecuador, and Lisbon. Special prizes were awarded to Lima/Peru, Hong Kong, and New York.
The Award Winners:
- 1st Place: German School of the Borromäerinnen Cairo (€60,000 prize money) for the Moqattam Project
Twice a week, students from the German School Cairo visit schools in Manschiyyet Nasser, a disadvantaged district of the Egyptian capital. There, they offer small group lessons and leisure activities for the children. Conversely, students from the "Garbage City" visit the German School once a month and benefit from the better facilities there. - 2nd Place: German School Brussels/German School London (€40,000 prize money) for the "Joint International Digital Vocational School" project
Not all students at German schools aim for the Abitur (German higher education entrance qualification) as their final degree, but the establishment of an alternative vocational school often lacks enough candidates at individual sites. This is where the project of the International German School in Brussels comes into play, setting up a joint virtual vocational school together with the German School in London. - 3rd Place (shared):
German School Stiehle Cuenca (€10,000 prize money) for the project "Young Scientists with Big Ideas Conduct Research"
The project "Young Scientists" at the German School Stiehle Cuenca in Ecuador promotes education for sustainable development—for its own students as well as children and young people attending nearby public schools. Early interest and enthusiasm for science and technology are encouraged in this initiative. - German School Lisbon (€10,000 prize money) for the project "Education for Sustainable Development"
How can a school integrate the topic of ecological, economic, and social sustainability into everyday school life, from kindergarten to graduation? The German School Lisbon showcases this through a variety of measures and the regular sensitization of its students.
Excellence/Special Awards:
German School Alexander von Humboldt in Lima for the project "Dealing with Water and the Environment"
The water project of the German School in the Peruvian capital Lima focuses on raising awareness of one of the most important resources for humans and the environment. The aim of the Colegio Peruano-Alemán is to promote a sensitive use of water and make the school's commitment externally visible through a certificate from the Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture.
- German Vocational School Hong Kong for the project "Shaping the Future Together"
Establishing a standalone German foreign school for vocational education is a complex task. Students contributed to the success of this initiative, set to start under the name "German Business School Hong Kong" during the 2025/2026 school year, by deeply engaging in the preparation for its founding. - German International School New York for its "Makerspace"
The German International School New York exposes children and youths from kindergarten to graduation to interdisciplinary approaches and the use of modern technologies with the aid of a "Makerspace." This cross-disciplinary concept is firmly anchored in the school's culture, contributing to sustainable learning progress.
