Wherever German companies are active worldwide, German schools abroad create reliable educational opportunities and build bridges between cultures and markets.
German companies are present on global markets with their products and services, investing billions of euros in production facilities and subsidiaries abroad. Through this international commitment, they generate more than one-third of Germany's national income.
This economic performance is achieved by a large number of employees sent abroad to advise clients, manage subsidiaries, build production facilities, set up and commission machines. At the initiative and with funding from German businesses, many German schools abroad have been established to ensure the educational provision for the children of these expatriates and their seamless reintegration into the German school system upon their return.
Great importance for the economy
84,000 children and young people attend the approximately 135 German schools abroad in over 70 countries, supported by 5,600 teachers. Alongside the children of German expatriates, many students from the respective host countries also attend these schools. They learn the German language, getting to know Germany, its society, culture, and economy.
It is these bilingual and bicultural indigenous students who, as future opinion leaders and decision-makers with a positive attitude toward Germany, can become important multipliers for German politics and economy. They also bring excellent prerequisites for starting dual education or studying at universities in Germany, and form a recruitment pool for German companies abroad seeking bilingual and Germany-acquainted employees.
