Committee for Information and Communication Technology

The DIHK ICT Committee brings together expertise from the digital economy and addresses key issues such as fibre optics and mobile network expansion, IT security, data economy, and digital administration.

The DIHK ICT Committee focuses on comprehensive digital infrastructure expansion, data and information security, modernization of administration through e-government, and developments in the data economy and other high-relevance digital policy areas for businesses.

The ICT Committee brings together representatives from Germany's information and communication technology companies and user companies from across the country. The committee is complemented by experts from the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry who contribute technical, economic, and regulatory perspectives. This diversity ensures a practice-oriented discussion on digital frameworks and technological developments.

The spring meeting of the DIHK ICT Committee on 22 April 2026 focused on digital sovereignty, cybersecurity, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the economy and society.

Andreas Reisen, Head of Department at the BMI, provided insights into the German Ministry of the Interior's initiatives to enhance cybersecurity in the economy, including the planned cybersecurity "Cyberdome" program, national implementation of the Cyber Resilience Act, and further development of the Cybersecurity Act. The committee members particularly discussed the impact on companies, the importance of digital sovereignty, and the requirements for practical implementation of new regulations.

Subsequently, representatives from Deutsche Telekom highlighted topics such as technical sovereignty, sovereign cloud infrastructures, and digital resilience. The focus was on the role of cloud technologies for small and medium-sized enterprises, data center strategy, and ways to reduce technological dependencies.

Another focus was on the disruptive impact of artificial intelligence on companies and business models. Tobias Rademann, R.iT GmbH, and Maximilian Störzer, SWM - Stadtwerke München GmbH, demonstrated with practical examples how AI changes processes, qualification requirements, and value chains, and what consequences this entails for the economy, education, and politics.

Sophia Hatzelmann, ahc gmbh, presented innovative applications of fiber optic detection and monitoring.

Finally, DIHK experts reported on current developments in Berlin and Brussels, before the committee members discussed central positions on digital sovereignty in a workshop. The focus was on dealing with critical components, open-source solutions, data center capacities, and international cooperation opportunities.

The next meeting will take place on 10–11 November 2026 in Berlin.
