EMAS Register – Information on Environmental Management

Businesses aiming to reduce harmful environmental impacts and environmental risks while enhancing their legal compliance are well-advised to implement an environmental management system. Find information about the "EMAS" register, the "Eco Management and Audit Scheme", here.

Businesses and other organisations that systematically improve energy and material efficiency, reduce harmful environmental impacts and environmental risks, and strengthen their legal compliance are well-advised to implement an environmental management system.

The "EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme" (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, or EMAS for short) provides a directory of registered organisations with information available online through the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK).

The database, accessible at www.emas-register.de, allows users to search for organisations registered in Germany using criteria such as name, registration number, federal state, industry sector (NACE code), and company size.

Committed to continuous improvement

EMAS organisations commit to continuously improving their environmental performance beyond statutory requirements. Unlike ISO 14001, EMAS requires participants to prepare an environmental statement that must be validated by an approved independent environmental verifier.

The approval of environmental verifiers is the responsibility of the German Accreditation and Licensing Society for Environmental Verifiers (DAU). DAU GmbH also publishes an online list of approved environmental verifiers, searchable by industry sector.

In Germany, the task of registration is handled by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the Chambers of Skilled Crafts. A list of registration offices can be found at www.emas-register.de/emas-registrierungsstellen.

The DIHK’s environmental statement

Validated environmental management also at the DIHK

The DIHK itself has had an environmental management system validated according to EMAS rules since December 2021. In 2025, the environmental declaration was updated based on figures from 2024. It is available for download here:
