Reaktion von Volker Treier

A strong signal for the partnership between Germany and Canada

Regarding the decision by the Canadian Government to award the contract for constructing new submarines to the German-Norwegian consortium, DIHK foreign trade chief Volker Treier explains

07/07/2026 - "The decision by Canada in favour of the German-Norwegian offer is a strong signal of the efficiency and reliability of our industry as well as the close partnership between our countries. Germany and Canada share far more than trade. Both countries cooperate closely on matters of security, innovation, critical raw materials, and the development of resilient value chains. Canada's choice in a challenging international competition for the joint European solution demonstrates that technological expertise, long-term collaboration, and mutual trust are convincing factors. This award is also an important boost for strong transatlantic supply chains and closer economic cooperation between partners who share common values and interests."
