Vocational training in Germany stands for high-quality professional qualifications and excellently trained skilled workers. Nonetheless, there are numerous people who were either unable to obtain professional qualifications at a young age or who can no longer pursue their profession.
Partial qualifications (TQ) provide adults over the age of 25 the opportunity to acquire professional knowledge and skills gradually and ultimately obtain a recognized professional qualification. TQs are based on recognized apprenticeship professions and are offered nationwide for technical professions, commercial professions, and various service sectors, such as warehouse logistics or the catering industry.
The Role of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) in Partial Qualifications
The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHKs) actively support businesses and participants:
- Information for businesses on qualification opportunities and TQs
- Coordination with educational service providers on individual training paths
- IHK competency assessment of TQ graduates – a test to verify the professional skills acquired
- Issuance of an IHK certificate after successful competency assessment
Project "Seizing Opportunities!"
The project "Seizing Opportunities! With Partial Qualifications Towards Professional Certification" funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports the IHKs in establishing a nationwide, standardized TQ offering. The project makes a significant contribution to the qualification of semi-skilled and unskilled adults and opens up new paths to achieving a recognized professional qualification.
Further information and updates can be found on the project's website. (only available in German)
