International Trade: Opening Markets, Removing Barriers, Securing Supply Chains

Open markets and rules-based international trade drive prosperity and employment in Germany, Europe, and the world.

The internationally interconnected German economy depends on stable supply chains and fair trade rules. Geopolitical and technological changes, sustainability requirements, increasing protectionism, and the erosion of multilateral frameworks fundamentally transform international labour division. The EU holds decisive influence over supply chains and investments of internationally active German businesses through its trade policy. It should therefore support them in improving their competitive position in global markets, counter protectionism, secure supply chains through multilateral rules where possible, and defend EU economic interests more assertively in an increasingly decoupled global economy.
