Since the End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation came into force in summer 2002, very high standards have been in place for the environmentally friendly, proper, and safe recycling of end-of-life vehicles.
Approved collection and acceptance points, dismantling facilities, shredders, or other end-of-life vehicle processing plants must have compliance certified by experts, as per Section 5 of the End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation.
Certified Experts from German Chamber of Commerce and Industry or DAU Environmental Auditors
These certifications may only be issued by certified experts from the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK-Sachverständige, in accordance with Section 36 of the Trade Regulation Act) and DAU Environmental Auditors (Section 6 of the End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation). Relevant experts can be found in the following directories:
- IHK Expert Directory at http://svv.ihk.de or
- DAU Environmental Auditor Directory at www.dau-bonn-gmbh.de (Select "NACE-Code WZ 2008," authorization area "38.3," and the option "Environmental Auditors authorized for the NACE-Code")
The general requirements of the End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation can be found in the legal text of the regulation available at www.gesetze-im-internet.de/altautov. (only available in German)
