With the beginning of Russia's war on Ukraine in February 2022, the European Union, Germany, and international partners enforced comprehensive sanctions against Russia. The aim of these measures is to mitigate the conflict and curb the economic and financial means supporting the Russian warfare.
The sanctions range from trade bans and embargoes to restrictions in the financial and investment sector, as well as travel and asset freezes targeting specific individuals and organizations. They also include extensive export and import bans that companies must adhere to, along with regulations to prevent sanctions circumvention through third countries. This extends to firms with no direct business with Russia. Since 2022, these measures have been regularly extended, most recently with packages planned to remain effective until 2027.
