Construction Trades Modernised: 19 New Training Regulations Introduced

From interior construction specialists to carpenters: New training regulations for 19 construction industry professions came into effect on August 1, 2026.

This marks the completion of a comprehensive reorganisation process for training professions in interior construction, structural engineering, and civil engineering. The new training regulations apply to 16 three-year and 3 two-year professions, providing a uniform nationwide framework for training in construction trades, aligning with the technical and organisational developments within the industry.

The new training regulations consider the current requirements of the construction industry. Training content has been revised with a particular focus on digitisation, sustainability, climate protection, and refurbishment of existing structures.

Staggered Examination, Credit Transfer Models, and More

Additionally, a staggered final examination has been introduced for the 16 three-year professions. The previous interim examination has been removed and replaced by the first part of the final examination, contributing to the overall result.

For the two-year professions in interior, structural, and civil engineering, credit transfer models have been established, simplifying the transition into corresponding three-year training programs.

Another notable change is a fallback option for the three-year professions: If the final examination is not passed, achieving a qualification in a corresponding two-year profession is possible under certain conditions. This ensures that already acquired competencies are recognised, and training dropouts are avoided.
