Vocational Education: What Digitisation and Validation Bring to Practice

The name is cumbersome, but the content is pleasing: The Vocational Education Validation and Digitisation Act (BVaDiG), passed by the German Bundestag in the summer of 2024, can contribute to simplifying processes in vocational training and alleviating the shortage of skilled workers. An overview of the most important new regulations.

The Vocational Education Validation and Digitisation Act (BVaDiG), passed by the German Bundestag, aims to simplify vocational training and alleviate skilled labour shortages.

With BVaDiG, two key themes entered the German Vocational Training Act (BBiG) that are crucial for the future and attractiveness of vocational training: Firstly, since August 2024, the consistent use of digital documents and seamless digital (administrative) processes in vocational education has become possible. Secondly, in 2025, the procedure to determine individual vocational competence ("Validation") was introduced.

The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) provided extensive comments on the draft version of BVaDiG in December 2023:
DIHK Statement on the Vocational Education Validation and Digitisation Act (only available in German).
