Founded alongside the establishment of the new EU Commission following the 2019 European elections, the DIHK created the 25-member Board Europe, where committed entrepreneurs from the IHK honorary offices, members of the executive management of several IHKs, and the AHK Europe spokespersons come together.
The Board Europe of the DIHK (German Chamber of Commerce and Industry) specifically brings entrepreneurial perspectives into European economic policy. Founded alongside the establishment of the new EU Commission following the 2019 European elections, the committee now consists of around 25 experts from entrepreneurial practice: dedicated entrepreneurs from the IHK honorary offices, members of the executive management of various IHKs, as well as the AHK Europe spokespersons.
Against the backdrop of profound changes in the European economic model – such as through the European Green Deal, the European Digital Strategy, and the readjustment of EU SME and industrial policy – the Board Europa supports the work of the IHK organization with practical, business-related expertise. The organizational coordination lies with the DIHK office in Brussels, which functions as an important interface to the European institutions.
A particular added value of the Board lies in its multiplier function: The members bring central European topics to the committees of their respective IHKs, thereby acting as a link between European politics and regional entrepreneurship. In doing so, the Board Europa strengthens the flow of information, opinion formation, and representation of the interests of the commercial economy – both locally and at the EU level.
