The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) Education Committee oversees education policy decisions at the federal level. Its priorities include enhancing the appeal and modernisation of vocational training, addressing the digital transformation in training and further education processes, and tackling the challenges posed by demographic changes. The committee brings the perspectives of businesses and the IHK organisation into political discussions.
The DIHK Education Committee addresses a comprehensive range of policy issues related to vocational education and training at the federal level. As the IHK organisation holds a legally established mandate within vocational education, the committee's work touches on fundamental and strategically crucial questions concerning the operational capabilities of the IHKs.
Interview with Committee Chair Swaantje Creusen
The topics span from modernising training regulations and implementing digital examination and learning formats, to launching qualification initiatives for the current workforce. Additionally, the committee evaluates the effects of demographic change and creates solutions for businesses reliant on a qualified workforce and new talent.
The most recent meeting of the DIHK Education Committee took place on 19th May 2025 in Berlin, with an evening session on 18th May. The next meeting is scheduled for 24th November 2026 in Berlin, with an evening session on 23rd November.
