Background

German-Canadian trade in goods stood at just under €22 billion in 2025 (exports: around €12 billion; imports: around €9 billion) - an increase of 59 per cent compared with 2016, the year before CETA. German direct investment in Canada amounted to around €26 billion in 2024; 628 German companies employed more than 71,000 people there. At EU level, trade in goods with Canada grew by 76 per cent since 2016 to more than €81 billion (2025).
