Tourism: Economic and Regional Driver – Recognising its Role and Improving Conditions

The tourism industry includes accommodation, gastronomy, tour operators and travel agencies, transport services, leisure and cultural facilities as well as destination management organisations, trade fairs, congresses, and events.

The objective is to achieve an increasing macroeconomic contribution of the tourism industry in Germany through appropriate political framework conditions.

Tourism also strengthens structurally weak regions. In addition to direct economic effects, tourism demand also indirectly increases the quality of available infrastructure, recreational and leisure opportunities, and thus the attractiveness of an entire region where other industries in the region benefit. This economic factor, which also influences the choice of location of companies and (international) professionals and workers, must be sustainably consolidated through deliberate, reliable political framework conditions. The availability of affordable housing is an important contributing factor in this regard.
