21.09.2026 - “The reform signals from the German Chancellor point in the right direction, but actions must follow now. The federal government, Bundestag, and Bundesrat should use the autumn to concretize and swiftly implement the announced reforms. Backing away from difficult decisions would send entirely the wrong signal right now. The coalition must maintain a united course to make Germany a competitive business location again. 

Instead of stagnation, production relocation, and job losses, we need companies that can create success stories again. This requires, above all, noticeable progress on labor costs, bureaucracy reduction, and energy prices. Despite some bright spots, we still predominantly see shadows in the recent decisions of the federal government. 

The temporary reduction of energy tax on fuels can provide short-term relief for particularly affected sectors and commuters. However, what is necessary in the energy sector are reliable market-driven signals with a long-term perspective. The planned price cap points in the opposite direction and carries the risk of supply shortages. This is not a forward-looking concept and should be reconsidered. 

Energy taxation also needs a clear, long-term course. This includes permanently reducing electricity tax for all businesses as well as for citizens to the European minimum rate. This can be financed through the Climate and Transformation Fund, which is significantly supported by contributions from businesses and consumers via the CO₂ levy. The coalition promised this relief step more than a year ago, and they should deliver on it now. This would simultaneously contribute to climate protection, economic stability, and relief for all energy consumers.”
