The outlook for world trade remains bleak. The ongoing tensions and wars in the Middle East, the closed Strait of Hormuz, and the impending closure of the Bab el-Mandab strait are straining trade routes and supply chains between Europe and Asia. At the same time, the weakness of consumption in the Chinese domestic market and the growing competition from Chinese suppliers are putting significant pressure on the German and European export economies.

Reliable economic and trade policy frameworks that ease the burden on companies are all the more important. This includes opening up new markets. In this respect, the EU should conclude further trade agreements. Countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, or the Philippines offer great market opportunities. New agreements could support companies in their plans for supply chain diversification and market development."
